Hong Kong, Huawei demo FDD-TDD 4.5G netword

Mobile operators in Hong Kong include HKT, Three, China Mobile and SmarTone. Earlier this year, HKT and Huawei demonstrated the world's first IP-RAN based 3CC CA with a single-user peak rate of 450Mbps. 3 Hong Kong and Huawei on Wednesday announced they achieved a 1 Gbps peak connection speed on a hybrid FDD/TDD network in a demonstration of what Huawei calls "4.5G" technology. "Huawei's mobile broadband strategy will focus on spectrum, air interface, network architecture, integrated base stations, and operations based on user experience", said Ken Hu, Huawei's deputy chairman and rotating CEO.

HK Telecom and Huawei showed off the "world's first" 1Gbps 4.5G network in action at the Huawei Global Mobile Broadband Forum (MBBF) in Hong Kong, claiming the development is a "significant milestone" for commercialisation of the technology, which could happen next year. Co-organised by the GSMA and Huawei in Hong Kong, it is being attended by 800 leading operators, telecommunications associations, regulatory bodies, standard organisations, analysts firms, vertical industry partners and global media representatives from around the world. With the introduction of 4.5G LTE technology, operators will be able to improve the user experience and support the proliferation of machine-to-machine (M2M) communications and the Internet of Things, as well as new mobile Internet applications, such as those using virtual reality glasses and drone technology. As one of the most developed cities in the world, Hong Kong is at the forefront of wireless communications technology adoption. It expects the first commercial deployments to take place next year. 3 Hong Kong offers cutting-edge data, voice and roaming services under the "3" brand via far-reaching advanced 4G LTE, 3G and 2G networks. 3 Hong Kong also works with renowned partners to offer a wealth of innovative mobile devices and value-added services, while providing high-speed Wi-Fi at "3HKWiFiService" hotspots to serve Hong Kong's major areas.
