Introduction

2005 marks the 10-year anniversary of the Center for Wireless Communications!
We are celebrating the occasion with a one-day Symposium on "Spectrally Efficient Wireless Communications". Come join us to hear lectures from some of the greatest scientists and policymakers on this important topic.

Spectrally Efficient Wireless Communications

The quest for enhanced spectral efficiency in wireless communications has taken on many forms over the past decade or so. From the transition from individually optimized layers of the protocol stack to cross-layer optimization, to the ubiquitous use of MIMO technology, to the paradigm of "shared" spectrum, as epitomized by both ultrawideband communications and cognitive radio, spectral efficiency considerations have become pervasive in wireless communications systems design. Indeed, the issues of spectral efficiency have transcended the technical community, in that both economic and regulatory aspects of spectral efficiency have been receiving increased attention as well.
